Atlantic Beach Bake Sale Raises Money for Charity

Despite the breezy conditions, and temperature nosedive, Atlantic Beach residents still made it out to the bake-sale.

Put on by teen Lily Greenwald, and her younger sister Maggie, the bake sale was to support the Jacksonville Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic.

While the elder Lily is the young, budding chef in the family, Maggie takes the cause to heart. The fiery Atlantic Beach Elementary student was born cleft-affected, an affliction which strikes 1 in 700 newborns. With an average of 1300 babies being delivered each month in Duval County, dozens of kids each year are in need of the clinic’s team of trained physicians.

“This is such a great cause to be baking for,” said Jenny Rogers, resident of Atlantic Beach.

The sale’s 20th Street location on Sunday helped raise over $100 for the clinic. Many neighbors drove by, exchanging a few dollars for homemade, Halloween treats.

Posts on Facebook even showed people out of the area wanted some treats.

“Can you ship to Michigan? We would love to try some!” one post said.
