Mandalay Park was renamed over the weekend, following a sign unveiling ceremony at the park nestled between Seminole Road and Ocean Blvd.
The park was re-designated as Waters Park, to honor the memory of former Atlantic Beach commissioner Dezmond Waters, who died earlier this year.
Void of a sign previously, the City of Atlantic Beach installed a new sign to commemorate the renaming.
Janice Waters, the widow of the late commissioner, was present to help unveil the sign.
“Dezmond is probably the only ‘Dezmond’ you’ve ever known that spelled his name with a ‘z,” joked Waters. “I’m pleased they got it right!”
The park is one of the City of Atlantic Beach’s many parks and recreational areas. Waters Park also hosts public parking for nearby beach access points.
