Love at First Bite: A Sneak Peak at M Shack in Atlantic Beach
We’ve been eagerly watching the build-out of the space formerly occupied by The BookMark in Atlantic Beach, as it’s transformed into the new, laid back restaurant M Shack.
M Shack will bring an upscale, and affordable menu featuring burgers, fries, hotdogs, shakes…casual food served quickly; but quality fare, as it’s coming from the Medure family of chefs, brothers Matthew and David. We’re excited to have a casual Medure eatery in Atlantic Beach.
We walked up to M Shack a few days ago thinking we’d peer into the windows for a glimpse of what was to come.
We found the doors open on a sunshiny warm afternoon, the interior looking great while a few craftsmen continued work on installation, and David Medure testing a few recipes in his brand new kitchen. The restaurant will feature walk-up ordering, and a clean, minimalist, contemporary style interior – a wonderful complement to the other eateries in the neighborhood.
Atlantic Beach residents Robert Nelson and Suzanne Aguilar, owners of Garden Room Landscape Design, were the lucky recipients of one of the first burgers David had prepared in advance of the M Shack’s grand opening which is anticipated in early December.
It wasn’t long before he presented each of them with their cheeseburgers, which appeared mighty tasty to us.
They thought so, too.
Fortunately, we were there to document the moment.
We chatted with Chef David while his guests were enjoying their food with gusto.
He told us that Paul Williams would be running M Shack day-to-day; we saw Paul busy in the kitchen. David Medure is the chef at Restaurant Medure in Ponte Vedra Beach. His brother Matthew is the chef at Matthew’s Restaurant in San Marco, as well as TAG, there. Clearly, the brothers Medure are no slouches when it comes to creating dining spots that hit all the right notes with cuisine, style, mood, and locale.
M Shack’s Menu should be very appealing to a variety of diners: people coming and going from the beach, wandering around the Town Center, or looking for a late night snack after enjoying music and dancing at some of the other beaches establishments on the weekends. Is there anything better than an order of burgers and fries and a shake when you’re hungry at 1:30am?
David told us that M Shack will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 11:00am until 10:00pm. On Thursday, Friday and Saturdays its hours will be 11:00am until 2:00am.
Check out the menu, below. Hungry yet?
Watch The Beaches Online for the official announcement of M Shack’s grand opening. We’ve been hoping for a long time that the right business would occupy this space, empty since The BookMark moved across the street to Neptune Beach, to First Street. We think M Shack will be a great addition here.
And thanks, Robert and Suzanne, for letting us photograph your lunch!
