Annual Tradition on New Year’s Day

Hundreds flocked to the Seawalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach on the first morning of 2012 to ring in the new year with a plunge right into the Atlantic Ocean.

The skies were blue and the temperature was mild; while years past had seen downright chilly air temperatures to greet the ‘plungers,’ this year’s Polar Plunge was much more enjoyable.

“This was either my fourth or fifth year doing it,” said Carmen Burbridge, one of the more junior participants. “I’ve lost track!”

The event, put on by Wave Masters, is now an annual tradition. People from all across the globe, from age 3, all the way up to the more senior years, participated.
