A Photo Story: The 26.2 and the People Who Love It (Part One)

The race began ten minutes late, due to the shuttles’ schedule having been a bit delayed.  They waited for everyone to arrive…and gave us photographers a bit more light to work with as each minute brought sunrise nearer.

She sports the number 1.

She gives the runners a last-minute rallying call and thanks everyone.  Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown, and Dr. Edith Perez also give brief remarks.

The race begins…

Pink tutus are popular marathon fashions for women – – and men.

Students from Nease High School came out to offer refreshments the passing runners.  On a morning with temps below freezing and wind chill making it feel like 19 degrees, it’s colder when you’re just standing around.  Huddling together helped a little!

     Heather Fallon;  Sophia Bracken and  Brianne Lancaster are volunteers from Ponte Vedra High School, on hand to help Dee Reiter, past President of Beaches Exchange Club (and two-time breast cancer survivor) and the rest of the Beaches Exchange Club.  They offered Gatorade, water, and other refreshments to runners in front of the Neptune Beach City Hall.
