OPENING OF THE BEACHES PARADE THIS WEEKEND!

With the opening of the Beaches only days away, beach residents will be pondering whether or not to fight the crowds that converge to the shoreline to begin the beach going season. The Opening of the Beaches festival put on by the City of Jacksonville Beach every year is like our greeting card to the communities west of theIntracoastal Waterway. It’s our way of saying, “Welcome, the beaches are now open so come on out and enjoy yourself in the sand, sun and surf!” The parade is an ages old beaches tradition and although it has seen some better days, it is always fun to go down and watch some of the parade, some of the people and some of the crazy antics that always go on during the final weekend of April!

The parade will begin at 2:00pm on Sunday, and this year, the parade will begin at6th Avenue Northand1st Street, heading north to14th Avenue. Then it turns left going to2nd street, then South down2nd StreettoBeach Blvd. The parade route is different and longer this year due to construction at theCityCenter, but it will be a lot of fun and you want to miss it!

For those of you with kids be sure to get somewhere along the parade route early and set up camp! There will be lots of stickers and candy being passed out, stuff that kids love, so don’t miss the opportunity to bring some stellar smiles to the faces of those children!
