Jeannie Greenwald is a freelance photographer, neighborhoods evangelist, and editor-in-chief of The Beaches Online. She is also a degreed psychologist and occasionally works as an adoption social worker for Jacksonville area families. She founded The Beaches Online, LLC, in 2011 to write about the happenings in 'the beaches' - the island-without-a-name, in Duval and St. Johns Counties, Florida. Always equipped with cameras, she roams the beaches, the string of barrier islands from Amelia to Anastasia, and also journeys inland, to the rural banks of Florida's blackwater rivers, and the pristine, freshwater springs. Jeannie's lived at the beaches for twelve years, and considers herself a common-law native. She celebrates the joy of living in a coastal community that prides itself on its beautiful beaches and strong, independent local business community.

Paragliding over Jax Beach

It was a gorgeous fall afternoon at the beach. We stopped in at Jax Beach pier, to just spend a few minutes soaking in the sunshine and the weekend ambiance. This weather is great for so many things.  There are still those who’re willing to swim – even skinning it in the ocean whose temps […]

Heaven Couldn’t Wait

I’ve watched a community grieve online twice, in the past year or so. This time, the community – our community – has lost a beloved teacher.  Although I’d known Mike Tetlow for several years, it was a superficial acquaintance; he was my kids’ religion teacher at St. Paul’s in Jax Beach.  I’d see him around […]

VOID Magazine’s Release Party This Friday

Have you seen VOID magazine?   It’s pretty much everywhere here at the beach, free to the public.  We’re longtime magazine lovers so when this new print magazine focussing on North Florida’s surf and skate culture premiered a year ago, it definitely caught our eye. A lot of our favorite magazines have disappeared  these past […]

The Last Acoustic Night of 2011

Protect Your Pumpkins!

Here in Florida, our carved pumpkins tend to have a short shelf life.  In other words, they rot quickly, so we don’t have much of a window to enjoy our carved, orange masterpieces. But wait!  There may be a way to extend the life of your jack-o-lantern! We read about this little trick on our iPhone’s […]

Family Movie Night At Atlantic Beach Elementary School

Last night about 75 families with kids at Atlantic Beach Elementary (ABE) gathered outside the school, spread the blankets or beach towels on the ground (or maybe a comfy beach chair, just sayin’) and waited till the sun went down and the stars came out.  The family-friendly movie Rio was shown on the giant screen […]

This is… The Beaches Online!

Welcome to The Beaches Online, your online lifestyle magazine that celebrates our beach life on this island east of Jacksonville – from histoic Mayport to Vilano beach, we are 27 miles of coastline most heavily populated from Atlantic Beach to Ponte Vedra Beach, and we love the little town we’ve chosen to live in. We […]
