Local Girls Raise Money for Charity

Many residents of the beaches – the Atlantic Beach area in particular – have been aware of and supporting the neighborhood bake sales put on by young baker Lily Greenwald and her sister and assistant Maggie. Lily came up with the idea of raising money for the Jacksonville Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic in Wolfson Children’s […]

The Christmas season at The Beaches kicks off this week first in Neptune Beach, then in Atlantic Beach. The cities were busy preparing for the festivities on Tuesday, stringing lights and hoisting the city Christmas trees into position. The City of Neptune Beach’s Community Development Director Amanda Askew, as well as Danny Johnson and Bobby Williams […]

Beaches Town Center Comings and Goings

If you haven’t been to the Beaches Town Center since the Thanksgiving holiday, boy, have you missed a lot. The group of shops that straddles the border between Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach welcomed a new eatery, and waved goodbye to another. M Shack, which we posted about before its official opening, is now open […]

Love at First Bite: A Sneak Peak at M Shack in Atlantic Beach

We’ve been eagerly watching the build-out of the space formerly occupied by The BookMark in Atlantic Beach,  as it’s transformed into the new, laid back restaurant  M Shack. M Shack will bring an upscale, and affordable menu featuring burgers, fries, hotdogs, shakes…casual food served quickly; but quality fare, as it’s coming from the Medure family of […]

Atlantic Beach’s Acoustic Night…

….may be over for the 2011 season, but we’ll be featuring some acoustic performances from The Beaches Online musical archives from time to time, to tide us over until next Spring when it begins again. Here’s a performance by Danny Dornan. A lovely performance; the videographer ought to have stood still rather than roaming the […]

An Old Park with a New Name

Mandalay Park was renamed over the weekend, following a sign unveiling ceremony at the park nestled between Seminole Road and Ocean Blvd. The park was re-designated as Waters Park, to honor the memory of former Atlantic Beach commissioner Dezmond Waters, who died earlier this year. Void of a sign previously, the City of Atlantic Beach […]

Tideviews Preserve at Sunset

Tideviews Preserve “officially” opened this weekend following a ribbon-cutting ceremony early Saturday morning.

As we first reported to you, the parking lot was full for the opening morning.

However, our return trip to view the sunset provided us an empty boardwalk for us to capture the magnificent setting sun.

Tideviews Preserve Opens to Sunny Weather, Crowd

Tide Views Preserve officially opened Saturday morning to a small crowd and sunny skies. The parking lot was full as visitors meandered through a coastal forest before emerging out into the wetlands that front the western flank of our beaches. The park features a lengthy boardwalk, upon which visitors can fish, take in the scenery […]

The Last Acoustic Night of 2011

If it’s schmaltzy to say, “Thank goodness for Mike Shackelford,” then we accept the schmaltz.  We’re sentimental about living in a small, coastal town, where neighbors wander over to the park for an open-mic style Acoustic Night each month on a Sunday evening – May through October.  The city of Atlantic Beach sponsors the […]

Atlantic Beach Bake Sale Raises Money for Charity

Despite the breezy conditions, and temperature nosedive, Atlantic Beach residents still made it out to the bake-sale. Put on by teen Lily Greenwald, and her younger sister Maggie, the bake sale was to support the Jacksonville Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic. While the elder Lily is the young, budding chef in the family, Maggie takes […]

A Sunday Brunch of…Pizza?

I awoke late on a Sunday morning craving one thing — breakfast pizza. Where can you get pizza for breakfast? And no, I wasn’t craving a pepperoni pizza, or even a supreme pizza. I wanted eggs, bacon…you know, breakfast pizza. A quick look at my Facebook upon sitting up in bed greeted me with the […]

Family Movie Night At Atlantic Beach Elementary School

Last night about 75 families with kids at Atlantic Beach Elementary (ABE) gathered outside the school, spread the blankets or beach towels on the ground (or maybe a comfy beach chair, just sayin’) and waited till the sun went down and the stars came out.  The family-friendly movie Rio was shown on the giant screen […]
